Chifcpug Meeting Notes – Synk Audio Studios Sponsorship – droidMaker

Chifcpug Sponsorship

The Chicago Final Cut Pro Users Group (Chifcpug) held it’s November 2005 meeting yesterday. I was attending since Synk Audio Studios is now a proud sponsor of Chifcpug.

In addition to being the home of heavyweight advertising, marketing, and business communication agencies, Chicago also has an extraordinary community of smaller creative agencies and independent filmmakers and videographers. Chicago is our home base also, and we want to help support and foster this community.

By far, the highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Michael Rubin, author of droidMaker (George Lucas and the digital revolution).

Michael’s talk was a fascinating history of not only the origins of Zoetrope, Lucasfilm, and Pixar, but also the emotional underpinnings that motivated Lucas and Coppola to push the edge on filmmaking business practices and technology.

Michael is a fantastic storyteller, and his past gig at Droid Works gives him plenty of stories to draw upon, all of which he conveys in a style that is entertaining and enthralling. He is currently on a national book tour, if you get a chance, I highly recommend you check it out.
